Prescription Details Help
If you request it your optician is obliged under law to provide you a copy of your
prescription following your eye test. You are not under any obligation to purchase a pair of glasses from the optician following your eye test.
Transfer your details very carefully into the on-site prescription screen (with any additional information in the 'comments' field provided after clicking 'Buy Now!'). If you have any trouble reading your prescription or are unclear on anything regarding your prescription, please call us on 0845 070 6930, or email us via the contact page and we will try and help.
If you are concerned about entering your prescription details you may fax us the document on 0870 7064955 (please include how we may contact you with clarifications).
What is and how do I get the Pupillary Distance(PD)?
The PD measurement is necessary to ensure the correct positioning of your lenses within the frame you have chosen.
To Obtain the PD ask somebody to measure the distance from the centre of the pupil (the black dot) in one eye to the centre of the pupil in the other eye. It’s like measuring a line connecting the two black dots.
To measure your PD:
Place a millimetre rule on the bridge of your nose. Have a friend face you about arms length away. Your friend should now read off the distance in millimetres between the centre of your pupils (the black dots in the middle of your eyes). We recommend you do this at least twice to assure the measurement is correct. You can also do it yourself simply by looking in the mirror.
Additional PD Notes:
- Optician measured PD:
The PD may also be obtained from your optician. Some are willing to impart it to you when you have your eye test and others will charge for the service. It only takes a second or two but they have a right to charge if they wish to.
- Average PD:
Most adults' PD's are between 60mm and 65mm. Many suggest the average is 63mm. Although you can order based on the average we do recommend you take the measurement to be more certain prior to purchase.
- Accuracy:
Two things are important here. A level of accuracy and your peace of mind. To get the required level of accuracy we advise that you measure the PD a number of times and take the one you believe is correct. For your peace of mind there
is a degree of leeway for the PD, with some people being a little more sensitive than others. If you go to three separate opticians you might even get three separate PD measurements (this is very common, try it!): its that precise! So, let's say you over measure by 3mm (although its better not to).
This equates to 1.5mm on each eye lens. If this is different from previous glasses you may need a week to get used to it but it is well within accepted tolerances and is likely to be absolutely fine.

How can I measure up and tell if the glasses will fit?
WebSpecsDirect measures every pair of glasses shown on the site. To help you ensure you get the correct measurements for a comfortable fit we have included a diagram below showing where each measurement is taken.
The best way of being sure is to use an existing pair of glasses to confirm your most comfortable fit. Once your new pair arrives it is occasionally necessary to visit an optician for minor fitting adjustments, which will normally be provided free of charge.
Can you supply Bifocal or Varifocal lenses?
For the time being we do not supply these lenses in the standard order process because we don't believe this can be done without following the procedure below, however, if you contact us we will discuss your requirements and will be happy to arrange the service for you.
For this service there are a number of steps:
- We will provide you with custom order details to use on the custom order page.
- We will send you the frame for fitting with your optician. They may charge for this service, or they may do it for free. Just phone round for a friendly one.
- You will return the frame to us for lense fitting
- After your little extra effort you will receive your new Varifocal glasses at a much much better price!
What is the delivery cost?
Although we offer extemely competitive prices, we firmly believe that the price shown should be the price you pay, without lots of add-ons and extras and then a final hit for delivery. With WebSpecsDirect you get the 'final' price before you proceed to the checkout. Delivery REALLY IS FREE!
How long does it take to deliver my order?
We expect to have orders deliverred within 14 days. In fact most orders will be quicker than this. If you choose to create an account at the time of ordering you will be able to track your order within our system via the web site.
Is Buying Eyewear on the internet advisable?
Don't be afraid of buying online. You just need to check the dimensions of the frame (given on each model's information page)
to be sure whether its size will fit you or not. Do check these carefully. One of the best ways to get these measurements is to measure
an existing pair that you find comfortable. You will also need to get the Pupillary Distance (or 'PD') (as defined above). We are proud of our record of 100% satisfied customers with many repeat orders and will do everything we can to maintain that record.
All on-line orders are priority fulfilled in our high-tech lab with some of the latest precision optical equipment available in the U.K. If you still have any worries after reading our FAQ's please contact us via the contact page and we will do our best to answer your queries.
Does low price mean low quality?
Absolutely not. The quality of the frames and lenses are the same as offered in high street shops. Only frames with superb quality are offered at WebSpecsDirect after systematically evaluating every frame to our exacting standards. We then measure up each frame individually to ensure correct measurements and invest more time than most in creating clear images for you to make your choice. Additionally, low price does not mean no style as we invest an equal amount of time evaluating products for style as we do for quality.
Why are your prices so low?
WebSpecsDirect is autonomous of any other operation and is therefore able to pass on its considerable savings by doing business via the internet. The traditional high street optician's shop attaches a large premium to its spectacles prices and the service they provide. We do not. We strive to ensure our customers feel the benefits of doing business with WebSpecsDirect both in their pockets and in their stylish looks at very reasonable prices.
What is your returns policy?
- Faulty Goods
Subject to our full Terms and Conditions WebSpecsDirect will provide a full replacement service for any faulty goods we supply. WebSpecsDirect frames and lenses are covered by the manufacturers warranty in addition to our own warranty against manufacturing defects. Should a frame or lens be faulty on arrival you should inform us immediately, or within 14 days. We will be very pleased to replace the frame or lens as required to rectify any faults or errors. This warranty does not cover damage incurred subsequent to arrival (such as sitting on them or general wear and tear)
- I think the Prescription lenses are incorrect
If you are concerned about the accuracy of the prescription lenses we have provided we would suggest that very often it takes up to a week to become used to a new prescription, even with very small differences from a previous one. In most cases after a week of wearing the new spectacles our customers find they are very pleased with their purchase.
- Problem Confirmation
We quality check every order before dispatch, but if you still feel there may be a problem please go in the first instance to your local optician to have them checked. They may ask for a small fee for this service, but it will determine the precise nature of the problem (and you’ll still be ££’s ahead on buying from them!). We would suggest you ensure you are dealing with a qualified ‘dispensing optician’ (not an assistant with limited experience or ability (particularly common in chain stores). If you cannot see one then go somewhere else or at least seek a second opinion. In our experience you may often get different results! If you have any problems we are here to help.
- I know I have Problem
If you still believe there is an problem, or just wish to discuss the course of action for your concerns then please contact us and we will do all we can to rectify the issue. Our business depends on satisfied customers (and that’s you!) so you can be sure we will always take your concerns seriously.
- Returns Reference
Before returning any goods you MUST contact us to obtain a returns reference. Any goods returned must be sent by registered post with the returns reference clearly marked on the envelope. If these conditions are not met we are obliged for legal reasons to reject the goods on delivery.
